Thank Goodness I don't work in an office!

Today is a better day.
Today I will be clever and I will eat.
So I wont get wibbly or paranoid.
I'm fine when I'm working because my job involves lots of moving arround, takes lots of energy and has tea and biscuits constantly available. But days off I'm hopeless. I sit down and read LJ, (sometimes taking hours) and this is bad enough, but then I decide there is nothing in the house I want to eat so I'll go into town and get something there. By the time I get there I'm already suffering and need something quick, so I eat something sugary which gives me a huge energy spike and I do lots of things and then crash again at really inconvenient times.
I don't mind the physical bits that much. it just tells me how stupid I am being and that I'm letting my machinery down. What I hate is the emotional aspect to it. The paranoia, feeling unable to cope and being inadequate etc etc.
but does this stop me doing it? Not as yet. One day at a time. Today I have eaten two bowls of cereal since I got up at 11. Lunch will be hot and sour soup, when I've made it.

A practical suggestion would be to carry something 'snackable' with you at all times. That way, you can eat something thats probably marginally healthy at the very least, but won't 'fill' you and still give you the sugar etc you need. And possibly get some blood tests done. It sounds like a mix of anaemeia and sugar allergies/inability to process them properly/'something' (feel free to ignore if you're diabetic or anything, and know already ;)). I carry chocolate and juice with me, just in case, cause I get BLINDING headaches if I don't eat properly, or black out.

As for what to do on 'off' days - may I be so bold as to suggest a hobby? Something you REALLY want to do. Or a night class, or online class or something? Dunno if you have a regular rota, but doing something you love, even if its exploring the museum and sketching (which I do on occassion, when I'm kidless (and Daveless)) is better than feeling you've got NOTHING to do. I've taken to photography and love going off and walking and exploring and finding good shots.
Oh, and poke people to do stuff more often :) We'll fit around your schedule if you've got one and we don't, really :)

I really need to rest on my days off. What I should be doing is as little as possible because otherwise I fill my days with friends to meet and places to go, shopping to do and house work.
I probably ought to get blood tests done but I hate it when I work myself up to go and then they tell me its nothing. I know its not diabetes becuase I'm not really thirsty or losing lots of weight rapidly with no good reason. but what it is I don't know so I just go with living with it and occaisionally not being sensible.

:)

Mmm, I do that.
Took me til about 1 to get washed and dressed yesterday, and then til kisin was on the way home to clean the bathroom. (He noticed, thank god, or the sponge might have gone up his nose!)

The next step is increasing paranoia and self doubt til you decide you're not actually going to eat because you don't deserve to... Or that might just be me! :) Luckily doesn't happen that often.

Carrying a mars bar works, and making sure there's stuff other than soup in the flat because it's just not filling without stupid amounts of wheat with it, and even if you'e not allegic to wheat too much is a bad thing.

Potato....

Indeed, rice is good.

And so versatile. it goes with or in just about everything.

rice, can of tomatos, herbs/spices, bit of tufu or similar

potao and leek soup - homemade can't get much more filling than that, and so simple to make too.

Oh yum, that's very true. Especially with a wee bit of cream in.

my next step of paranoia is I'm not going to eat because I'm hugely fat and if I eat I'll just get bigger.
I usually do carry something with me, that I don't need often so when I do use it I forget to replenish it. silly me!

YOU are NOT fat. Not a hope in hell. Have you never listened to how many of us wander round wishing we had a body like yours?

You possibly should sometime - I'm on THAT list :), and I know of several others (though, at the same time, I'm actually quite happy in my own skin - I just wish, jsut sometimes, I looked MORE like you :D)

Well, one thing that strikes me if there's nothing in the house you fancy, perhaps take a recreational shopping trip to the supermarket sometime to stock up on interesting delicacies? Like you'd go shopping for clothes, not like a utilitarian trip to get more bread and baked beans.

Instant miso is my current favorite for a quick snack when I can't face anything complicated.

Oh and oatcakes have all sorts of good, slow-release carbohydrates in them, are pretty much instant, can have a sweet or savory topping and can be served cold or toasted (and, unlike bread, don't go off in a couple of days).

What Nicky said, only; Ricecakes with chocolate spread on!

ooh toasted oatcakes sound good, never thought of that!

July 26 2005, 12:30:45 UTC 6 years ago

Rice cakes are good esp with hummus on them.

Oatcakes also sounds like a fine idea. I think keeping snacks like flafjacks and cereal bars around are also good.

Oh oh and what about dried fruit. Dried whole banana are yummy - though that may just be me.

Dried apple is curiously satisfying too.

I get like this. Low carb helps a lot. You might want to check out some of the stuff online about the glycemic index. Basically, low GI stuff like oats, and the carbs in most veggies, gets absorbed much more regularly into the bloodstream than high GI stuff like bread and sweets, so you don't get so much of a spike / crash effect. I find myself eating a lot more regularly and sensibly if I watch my carbs, anyway.

Look after yourself honey, I've done the running around all day on nought but a jellybean, and it's not fun (the stummy ache, shakes, and being sick - why does the body do that??)

Remember, you are the most important thing, and on that note, I'd better cook tea :-)
